First Aid for Eating Disorders
The term ‘eating disorder’ covers a range of different issues with food, including anorexia, binging and bulimia. They are often, but not always, associated with negative body image and low self-esteem. Eating disorders often co-exist with other mental health issues.
If you suspect that someone is struggling with disordered eating, Mental Health First Aid® can help. Before you approach, it can be helpful to learn as much as you can about eating disorders. Furthermore, you should avoid approaching the individual in situations that may add to their anxiety.
With our Mental Health First Aid® training, you will be able to spot the early warning signs in someone struggling. This can be done by encouraging them to seek the help they need while providing hands-on first aid skills to prevent a crisis.
At Sanitas Hub, our professionals can help you to help others.
Why We Need Mental Health First Aiders®
Mental Health First Aid® is designed to raise awareness of mental health and reduce stigma. At Sanitas Hub, we offer a range of courses covering different mental health issues. The role of a Mental Health First Aider® at work is to be a point of contact for someone experiencing mental health distress.
Training people in mental health awareness helps to develop an open and supportive work culture. It enables employees to speak to someone if they don’t feel comfortable talking to their manager. Mental Health First Aid® helps to spot early warning signs. In addition to this, first aid in mental health at work reduces absenteeism and presenteeism among colleagues.
