First Aid for Suicidal Crisis
Suicide is a major public health issue across the world. Many people experience suicidal thoughts at one time or another and it is important to assess the risk of suicide regardless of symptoms. As a Mental Health First Aider®, assessing this situation is the highest priority of the MHFA® action plan.
When approaching the individual, you must be aware of your own attitude. If you find yourself unable to help, find someone who can. Even if you only have a mild suspicion that the person is having suicidal thoughts, you should approach the individual promptly.
Some important warning signs that a person may be in crisis include:
- Expressing the intent to hurt/kill themselves
- Looking for ways to kill themselves
- Talking/writing about death, dying & suicide
- Feelings of rage or anger
- Feeling trapped
- Withdrawal

About Wimbledon
Wimbledon is a district in South West London and is home to the prestigious Championships tennis tournament. With wide open spaces and connections to Central London, it is the ideal location. Wimbledon Common is an incredibly popular area for runners and cyclists alike. It also boasts some stunning scenery.
The windmill in the heart of Wimbledon Common has been open as a museum since 1975. Until the end of the Second World War, it produced flour. The ground floor exhibit relates to the construction of windmills, while the first floor looks at how they work. Alternatively, the Victoria & Albert Museum is the world’s greatest museum of art and design. Explore some fascinating works of art from some of the world’s richest cultures.
If you’re seeking some retail therapy, Wimbledon offers a range of well-known brands alongside independent boutique stores. Afterwards, you can recharge in one of the many fantastic eateries the area has to offer.
