What is Mental Health First Aid®?

Mental Health First Aid® (MHFA®) is support offered to individuals struggling with mental health issues. It is given until the appropriate professional help is received or until the crisis is resolved. Additionally, it is typically offered by someone in the individual’s social network or someone in a public-facing role.

At Sanitas Hub, we specialise in MHFA® courses which teach you how to spot the early signs of mental health issues. It is the assistance given to someone experiencing mental health issues before they receive professional help.

There are many reasons why people need Mental Health First Aid® training. One of the main reasons is that many people are not well-informed and therefore do not know how to respond in such an emergency. Furthermore, many people with mental health issues don’t get the treatment they need.

We are affiliates with MHFA England®.

Depression in the Workplace

The mental health of employees is an area of increasing concern to many organisations. Depression is a major cause of absenteeism, presenteeism and loss in productivity. Identifying depression in the workplace may be complicated. Firstly, employees may be concerned about confidentiality or the impact it may have on their job.

Senior leaders have the responsibility to create an environment that prioritises mental health. Line managers also play a crucial role in promoting positive wellbeing. Ideally, MHFA training should be available to all line managers. This gives them the skills, knowledge and confidence to support employees in the workplace.
