Depression in the Workplace
Many businesses struggle to address mental wellbeing in the workplace. However, the mental health of workers is an area of concern. Depression is a huge factor in absenteeism, presenteeism and productivity loss.
Identifying depression at work can be complicated by several issues. Firstly, employees may be concerned about confidentiality or the impact that disclosing such information may have on their job. This may prevent individuals from being open about their illness. It is important that senior leaders create an open culture that helps employees recognise wellbeing as a critical issue that should be prioritised.
MHFA® training should be available to all managers. This gives them the skills, knowledge and confidence to support employees who may be experiencing mental health issues at work.
It is essential for employers to support employees’ mental health.
