As a mental health first aider, you will gain the confidence to respond in a crisis and know how to signpost someone towards appropriate support in both work and home environments The two-day MHFA First aider course we provide is split into 4 sections and delivered over 2 days. The sections are based on: What is mental health Suicide Anxiety and depression Psychosis In each section you’ll learn how to: Spot the early signs of a mental health problem Feel confident helping someone experiencing a mental health problem Provide help on a first aid basis Help prevent someone from hurting themselves or others Help stop a mental illness from getting worse Help someone recover faster Guide someone towards the right support Reduce the stigma of mental health problems The course has a minimum attendance requirement so each course has at least a few individuals to discuss the topics, to ensure a variety of ideas and understanding. The courses we deliver for the two-day MHFA training take place wherever possible on consecutive days. In this way, ideas that are presented on the first day can be reflected on and later discussed alongside further ideas that are presented on the second day. There are no requirements to research and there will be no further dates for the course to be completed but you will be sent a link for ‘learning hub’ which you will complete a number of activities before the course. Although if you cannot complete it all, the instructor has made time on the course to go through it. The course will qualify you as a Mental Health First Aider for three years and you will receive a certificate. The course is £300 per person (plus 20% VAT, £60 ) for the two-day online course, delivered by Christina James, a retired mental health nurse. On completion, you will receive an MHFA certificate.
